As the summer sun blazes, there's nothing quite like a cool and refreshing drink to quench your thirst. Introducing Raisin & Saunf Sharbat, a traditional Indian beverage made with simple ingredients and bursting with flavor. This recipe incorporates Jyoti Foods spices to elevate this classic drink to a whole new level!
Ingredients:
- 1 cup JF Green raisins / Kishmish
- 2 tablespoons fennel seeds (saunf)
- 1/2 cup sugar (adjust to taste)
- 4 cups water
- 1 lemon, juiced (optional)
- JF Green Cardamom / Elaichi Pods (crushed)
- Saffron (optional, for a luxurious touch)
- Lightly roast the fennel seeds: In a dry pan over medium heat, roast the fennel seeds for a few minutes until fragrant. Be careful not to burn them.
- Soak the raisins and fennel seeds: In a bowl, combine the roasted fennel seeds, raisins, and 1 cup of hot water. Cover and let soak for at least 30 minutes, or up to overnight for a more intense flavor.
- Simmer and strain: In a saucepan, add the soaked mixture along with the remaining water and sugar. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 10 minutes. Strain the mixture through a fine-mesh sieve to remove the raisins and fennel seeds.
- Enhance the flavor (optional): If using, add the lemon juice, crushed cardamom pods, and a pinch of saffron to the strained sharbat. Stir well and taste, adjusting sugar or lemon juice as desired.
- Chill and serve! Refrigerate the sharbat for at least 2 hours for a chilled and refreshing drink. Serve over ice and garnish with a lemon wedge or a few fennel seeds for an extra touch.
- For a sweeter sharbat, add more sugar to taste.
- You can substitute honey for sugar for a more natural sweetness.
- This sharbat can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
